Every day there seems to be a new pronouncement over the projected return to action of former world no.1 and French Open champion Rafael Nadal who has been on the ATP World Tour’s injured list since Wimbledon with acute problems in his left knee.
Now Toni Nadal, coach and uncle, has revealed the world no.4 will resume training in two weeks.
And Uncle Toni has not ruled out the possibility of his nephew playing in either the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London’s 02 beginning November 5 or for Spain in the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic in Prague starting November 16.
Speaking to Fox Sports, Nadal sr. said: “In 15 days, Rafa will resume training, in time for him to aim to play in the Masters and the final of the Davis Cup”.
The news appears contrary to the words of Rafa himself at the beginning of the week. He said: “ hope you see me in Australia [in January. That is the biggest goal for me, to come back just before then in Qatar , but I cannot say for sure it is going to happen. I want to be 100 per cent when I come back.”
Earlier this week World News reported the organizers of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi maintain the Majorcan will make his comeback at their exhibition tournament, beginning December 27.
And Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley insisted that Nadal jr. texted him to say he wanted the Australian Open to be his first tournament back.
