Andy Roddick has wasted no time in getting stuck into his post-tennis life, with the newly retired player staging a charity fund-raiser at his base in Austin which pulled in excess of $1 million in donations.
The annual gala, staged for the seventh time, featured musician and philanthropist John Legend, with monies raised benefiting youth programs at an eight-court tennis complex and learning facility in the Texas capital,
Also joining the 30-year-old Roddick and swimsuit model wife Brooklyn Decker were fellow Austinite Matthew McConaughey and more than 1,000 attendees. The audience got a live concert and silent auction.
Roddick could not have been more pleased with the evening’s outcome for his Andy Roddick Fund. “The foundation is growing, and this event gives us strong momentum going into 2013.”
The charity was organized 12 years ago during the peak of Roddick’s career and has raised more than $10 million for youth programs in Texas and South Florida, Roddick’s former home.
