PARTY ROCK OPEN – ELLISON SISTERS BLOG  |

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 28, 2012) – Professional tennis players and sisters Sierra and Roxanne Ellison were granted a wild card into the main draw doubles at the Party Rock Open, a women’s $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event sponsored by Redfoo of the hit group LMFAO and being played at the Darling Tennis Center. The pair lost in the first round to Lena Litvak and Nicole Melichar. Sierra blogs about their experiences in Las Vegas this week:

We wake up at 5 a.m., rub our eyes open and get ready to drive the four and one half hours to Vegas from our home in Southern California.  We grab some Starbucks and start the long trek singing along to pump up stay-awake songs while mentally preparing for the tournament that lies before us. The drive to Las Vegas is an interesting one, filled with miles and miles of dust, majestic mountains, and an off ramp named “ZZyzx Road.”  But, as we descend upon the Strip, you can’t help but smile at the excitement of it all. There’s never a dull moment on the road with your sister and doubles partner.

The Pandora song changes and LMFAO’s “Sorry for Party Rockin” begins playing on Pandora. How ironic life is, the minute we enter Vegas for the Party Rock Open, the title celebrity sponsor’s song happens to blast in my car. I do believe he planned it that way. Anyways, the tournament was nothing short of what you’d imagine a Party Rock open would be like. Walking into the stunning Darling Tennis Center, we are greeted by tons of people wearing zebra pants, hot pink shirts, Multi-colored glasses, and paint splattered ASICS’ shoes.  It’s as if you get the feeling that instead of a tournament, you are going to a concert…which wasn’t far from the truth.

On Kid’s Day Redfoo joined tons of kids and us lucky pros in some games and shufflin’. (For those of you who don’t know, Shuffin’ is a signature dance move for LMFAO.) All of the kids were in awe of how awesome and nice Red Foo really was. Not stuck up or “celebrity-like” at all. He was so much fun and a great sport! Really caring about having fun with the kids and making them feel special. His body guards had to chase after him because he would move from kid to kid and court to court so quickly and with such excitement, they couldn’t keep up.

Then of course the player party had to be held in typical LMFAO fashion at the MARQUEE! Lights, music, dancing, and majorly party rockin’ fun. Maybe a little too much fun for some, but what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas right? ;) But the highlight of my night was the most amazing player gifts ever! For a music junkie, receiving amazing, brand new, Monster headphones, was like having Christmas in the middle of September.  These awesome noise-cancelling babies, are what I am listening to right now in Starbucks as I write this blog. :P And trust me, no one knows what crazy, funky music I am blasting right now.

So if you weren’t satisfied with simply amazing headphones, then you were also given party rock gear as well! Head bands, knee high socks, bracelets, glasses, wristbands, and a t-shirt. All of which were totally decked out with Party rock sayings and logos. Awesome!

So to get away from all the fun and on to all seriousness, the talent at the tournament was quite stellar. All of the matches were sweat-provoking, grunting, not even close to blow out, intense matches. Even though I loved playing, watching seemed just as exciting, and in such a great facility, why wouldn’t you?

Even the Pro-Am was fun! All of the pros got to wear the new Party Rock tennis line, which included tennis dresses that were blindingly awesome colors with animal print spandex. So much fun to play against Redfoo on center court and have the DJ play during all the breaks so we could dance and rock out with our new doubles partners.

All in all, the Party Rock Open was fun, exciting, and extremely good competition. (On the court and the dance floor) I think that if more tournaments had this type of swagger, the pro circuit might be one big party with a ton of talent. On the road home, Vegas becoming small in my review mirror, I know it won’t be the last time Roxanne and I will be back to kick some butt and get our shuffle on. ;)
