Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and her parents, Marisa Vicario and Emilio Sanchez, appear to be on their way to a financial settlement after both parties requested that a trial that was to start next Thursday in Barcelona be suspended.
Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario had filed suit against her parents which demanded the annulment of a document that gave her parents the use of a house that her corporation owns.
Last spring, former No. 1 Sanchez- Vicario claimed that her parents stole all of her earnings and said that she was broke. The four-time Grand Slam champion won $16.9 million dollars in prize money in her 17-year career but claimed that overall (including endorsements) she took in about $60 million.
But an article in Vanity Fair Spain said that was far from the truth and said that the current Spanish Fed Cup captain is worth about $39.4 million dollars, owns a huge amount of real estate and owns businesses that hold accounts in Switzerland and Andorra that contain $13.1 million dollars.
“My parents made me suffer a lot. My parents left me with nothing and now I am indebted to the [IRS} and I will not be quiet,” she said at the time. “Today I am without resources.”
However, her parents later issued a statement saying their daughter “had taken the latest step in her desire to wound and humiliate” them. We lived for 20 years for her, put everything else aside and mortgaged our life,” they said
