Thoughtful top seed Janko Tipsarevic has emerged pleasantly surprised into the quarter-finals of the Thailand Open as his first impressions of a debut Bangkok visit continue to sink in.
The Serb, seeking a place from his provisional ninth spot for the eight-man season wrap-up event in London from November 5, also said that his first impressions of the sprawling and traffic-clogged Thai capital have been more than pleasing.
“I was surprised at how well the city is structured. The only impressions I had of Bangkok were from The Hangover II film. But actually, I’ve found none of the chaos and mayhem (of the film).
“I’ve played in six or seven Asian events but I don’t know why I’ve never come to Bangkok before, I don’t want to jinx anything – but I’m feeling great here.”
Tipsarevic said he cannot fathom why he has never played in Bangkok before, he won the first title of his career a year ago this week in Kuala Lumpur , rival ATP 250 event to Bangkok .
“I’ve played in six or seven Asian events but I don’t know why I’ve never come to Bangkok before, it’s just great.”
