Hank Haney and Ivan Lendl – two of the most highly regarded coaches in their respective sports – will appear together for the first time on Hilton Head Island to help raise funds for young athletes in financial need.
The fundraising event will take place Saturday, October 13 at the Country Club of Hilton Head. Proceeds will benefit the Junior Champions Foundation, which provides charitable opportunities for young athletes.
The exhibitions will begin at 4 p.m. on the club’s driving range and tennis courts. A private cocktail reception featuring Haney and Lendl will begin immediately following at 6 p.m. Both a silent and live auction, offering everything from golf and tennis to equipment to private lessons with Haney and Lendl, will take place during the reception.
Tickets are available to the public: $100 for the exhibitions and reception, or $50 for the reception only. Availability is limited.
“We are excited to have Hank Haney and Ivan Lendl, two of the greatest coaches in their disciplines, for our inaugural event,” says Ryley Hendry, Executive Director of the Junior Champions Foundation. “It promises to be a very special afternoon and evening.”
The appearance of Haney and Lendl together offers an exceptional opportunity to watch these two celebrated teachers exhibit their teaching techniques. They will also speak, share stories, and discuss their passion for teaching young athletes at the reception.
Haney is well known as the former coach to Tiger Woods. His students have gone on to win every major championship in professional, collegiate, amateur and junior golf. Lendl, a former World No.1 tennis player, is coach to current Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Open champion Andy Murray. Haney and Lendl both operate junior academies on Hilton Head Island.
“This is just the first year for the Foundation,” says Peter Orrell, Director of the Board for the Junior Champions Foundation. “Our goal is to give young athletes the opportunity to prepare for both competition and life and this inaugural event is a very promising beginning.”
