Murray Set To Visit Hometown Sunday  |

press release

US Open champion and London 2012 Olympics gold medallist Andy Murray is set to return to his hometown on Sunday, giving friends, family and the entire local Dunblane community the chance to congratulate him on an amazing golden summer of achievement.

“I can’t wait to get back to Dunblane to where it all began and share my US Open victory with everyone and thank them for all the support,” said Murray. “It’s definitely going to be emotional, but it’s a very special place for me.”

The newly crowned US Open champion is expected to arrive in an open-topped bus at 12 noon local time, and then walk through town towards the Dunblane Tennis Club courts where his journey began.

“We’re so thrilled that Andy’s coming,” said Stirling Provost Mike Robbins, who will be Murray’s host and deliver a welcome on behalf of the whole Stirling area.

“It’s always a pleasure to welcome him back, but this time, of course, it’s extra, extra special. I visited local schools the morning after his US Open triumph, and everyone was just buzzing. The one thing the children wanted was the chance to say ‘well done’, and now we will all be able to do just that.”

The visit is expected to last until 3pm. Further details when available will be posted on Stirling Council’s website at www.stirling.gov.uk.
