Roger Federer may well be ready to ride to the rescue again for Switzerland when his nation plays this weekend to remain in the Davis Cup World group against the Netherlands .
Swiss captain Severing Luthi, one of Federer’s coaches, named his best to the Swiss squad along with Stanslas Wawrinka, Marco Chiudinelli and Henri Laaksonen.
“It’s an interesting choice of surface from their side, playing outdoors on clay,” said Federer. “But then again, it’s an exciting tie because Dutch fans are always amazing.
“I remember when I played there 2004, maybe 2003. We had a great time. hope obviously the Swiss can win. But it’s going to be difficult. Away ties in Holland are always very difficult.”
Federer has yet to absolutely confirm his presence. “I’ll take a decision next few days. A lot is happening in my life.” Playing Davis Cup would leave him three weeks before the start of the Shanghai Masters 1000 in October, an event he missed in 2011 to rest after helping Switzerland to a Davis Cup win in Sydney over Australia.
