– This was Vergeer’s fourth consecutive women’s singles gold medal after her past wins in Sydney, Athens and Beijing. She has also won two gold medals and one silver medal in women’s doubles, taking her total tally to seven medals. This means she has now surpassed David Hall’s record of six medals to become the most successful Paralympic tennis player of all-time. Vergeer is also guaranteed to reach eight medals on Saturday when she competes in the women’s doubles final.
– Vergeer has now won 470 consecutive singles matches, an unbeaten run that dates back to January 2003. During this time, she has won 120 singles titles.
