Bob and Mike Bryan yesterday defeated Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut, 7-6, 7-6, to advance to today’s semifinals against the No. 9 seeds Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer. Qureshi and Rojer denied an all-American, all-brothers semifinal when they knocked off the wild card team of Christian and
Ryan Harrison yesterday, 6-2, 6-3. The Bryans, three-time champions, will be attempting to reach their fifth men’s doubles final today, along with 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2010. A fifth final would tie the Open Era record currently held by Bob Lutz and Stan Smith, who reached the final in 1968, 1974, 1978, 1979 and 1980.
Today’s other men’s semifinal features the No. 5 seeds, Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek, against the No. 6 seeds, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez. Also yesterday, the No. 4-seeded team of Kveta Peschke and Marcin Matkowski defeated the top-seeded pairing of American Liezel Huber and her partner, Max Mirnyi, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals. That means there won’t be a U.S. player in the mixed doubles final for the first time since 2005.
Peschke and Matkowski will face Ekaterina Makarova and Bruno Soares in today’s mixed doubles final, first up in Arthur Ashe Stadium
