Tennis Industry Chief Wants Merger of USPTA And PTR  |

Jon Muir, president of the TIA, told the TIA Forum in New York that the USPTA and PTR should merge.

Later in the week Muir reported in the TIA board meeting that he wants to push this merger, because it will eventually happen.

Incoming USPTA Executive Director John Embree will likely have this as number one item to address when he takes over his new assignment.

For several years tennis people have indicated a merger would make sense. Interestingly, the USA is the only major tennis country where the governing body of tennis does not control the teaching pros.

In fact, there are likely a number of pros who are not members of the USTA.

The two organizations are not rubber stamps of the other, as a result, there are quite a few tennis pros who belong to both organizations.
