MEN’S FINAL NOTES

– World No. 1 and top seed Roger Federer defeated second seed and World No. 2 Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final.

– First time a 6-0 set was recorded in a Western & Southern Open final since 1993 when Michael Chang won the match over Stefan Edberg despite being bageled in the second set. Chang recorded a 7-5 0-6 6-4 win for the title.

– First time in 28 matches between Federer and Djokovic there was a 6-0 set.

– It was the 11th 6-0 set Federer has won in his 108 career ATP World Tour finals and his first since 2007 Hamburg (defeated Nadal 2-6 6-2 6-0).

– This is just the second 0-6 set loss Djokovic has suffered in a final, the last coming in a 7-6 0-6 6-1 win over Richard Gasquet in Estoril in 2007.

– Just sixth bagel in 78 all-time ATP World Tour meetings between the World No. 1 and No. 2 players. It is the fourth set No. 1 Federer has won to love against a No. 2 ranked player.

– This was just the second ATP World Tour final in 2012 to feature a 6-0 set (Sam Querrey beat Ricardas Berankis 6-0 6-2 in the Los Angeles final).

– It is a record fifth title for Federer in Cincinnati. He had been tied for the record at four titles with George Lott, Bobby Riggs and Mats Wilander.

– This is the seventh tournament Federer has won at least five titles at, joining Wimbledon (7), ATP World Tour Finals (6), US Open (5), Halle (5), Basel (5) and Dubai (5).

– Third time in Federer’s career he won a title without dropping serve (2008 Halle and 2005 Doha).

– The 31-year-old Federer is is the fourth oldest Cincinnati champion in the Open Era and the first over-30 winning since Andre Agassi won the 2004 title at the age of 34.

– On Monday, Federer will begin his record 292nd week ranked No. 1 in the World.

– The title is the 76th of Federer’s career.

– This was the first Cincinnati final to feature World No. 1 versus World No. 2.

– It was the 28th meeting between the two players. Federer now holds at 16-12 lead in the head-to-head. Federer is now 2-0 against Djokovic in Cincinnati, with both wins coming in finals (also 2009).

– It was the eighth Cincinnati final featuring the top two seeds in the Open Era and the first such meeting since 1999 ([1] Pete Sampras defeat [2] Pat Rafter) and the 26th time since 1927.

– It was the first Cincinnati final to feature two players who have been No. 1 since 2005 when Federer defeated Andy Roddick.

– It was the first Cincinnati final between two players who both have won multiple Grand Slam titles since 2004 when Andre Agassi defeated Lleyton Hewitt.

– Djokovic has now been runner-up in Cincinnati four times.

– Djokovic, who won the title last week in Toronto, had a nine-match winning streak going into Sunday’s final.

– This marks the 16th consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Tournament that has been won by one of four players: Federer, Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray.
