Singles – Third Round: (16) M Raonic def. (2) A Murray walkover (knee)
The big story of the early going in Toronto was rain. Morning rain became afternoon rain, and it was starting to look like it would be evening rain as well. Then — Andy Murray livened things up by withdrawing. It’s partly precautionary — Murray wants to be able to defend his title in Cincinnati. Still, it means he won’t rise above #4 this week. Milos Raonic clinches a Top Twenty spot; he might go as high as #18.
Speaking of withdrawals, Rafael Nadal has pulled out of Cincinnati.
Given Thursday’s washout, it would be no surprise to see more withdrawals here, either.
Doubles – Second Round: (1) Mirnyi/Nestor def. Fognini/Monaco 6-4 6-3
After waiting around all day, they finally moved the doubles indoors. Which wasn’t good news for clay-loving Fognini/Monaco.
Doubles – Second Round: (4) Lindstedt/Tecau def. Bracciali/Seppi 6-1 6-4
Doubles – Second Round: (7) Qureshi/Rojer def. Chardy/Simon 6-7(5-7) 6-4 10-5 (Match TB)
Doubles – Second Round: (8) Granollers/M Lopez def. Berdych/F Mayer 6-2 6-2
Granollers/Lopez would probably have preferred to play outdoors, but they obviously made the best of it.
