The ATP World Tour’s four gold-medal winners from the London 2012 Olympics Tennis Event reunited Wednesday at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Andy Murray, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, and Max Mirnyi commemorated the occasion by posing for a photo with Bob’s medal.
“It’s a cool family to be hanging out with the other three gold medalists,” said Mike. “[Daniel] Nestor should be in there; he’s got one. Everyone’s in a good mood. Andy and Max are super happy and we’ve had a smile on our face for the last three days, so it’ll make for a fun rest of the year. We’re all going to be in a good mood.”
Murray, the first British man to win the singles gold in tennis since 1908, made the smooth transition from grass to hard court Wednesday afternoon, brushing aside Flavio Cipolla 6-1, 6-3 in his opening match. He is chasing his third Rogers Cup title this week.
Mirnyi, who teamed with Victoria Azarenka to win the mixed doubles gold for Belarus, is the top seed in the doubles draw along with 2000 doubles gold medallist Nestor of Canada. Meanwhile, the Bryans are the No. 2 seeds and will be looking to claim their fourth title in Canada.
