Andy Murray’s gold and silver Olympic medals didn’t stay in his possession long, with his pair of mischievous dogs getting their paws on them in a clever publicity lark.
Photos of the Murray border collies which he shares with live-in girlfriend Kim Sears quickly made an appearance on Twitter as his mutts Maggie May and new dog Rusty proudly posed with the men’s singles gold and the mixed doubles silver around their furry necks.
The photo posted to Maggie’s Twitter page (@maggiemay_hem) – reportedly overseen by Sears – went out to around 10,000 followers of the pampered pooches. “Here we go folks,” Maggie wrote. “Just checking to make sure Rusty definitely has the silver, obviously.”
The photo shows Rusty jealously eyeing the gold worn by his “big sister.”
Meanwhile Murray was on his way to the Toronto Masters with some of the Olympic hysteria dying down. The Scot is seeded second behind holder Novak Djokovic with his final playing decision to be made when he sees how his body pulls up after 11 matches in a week and the transatlantic journey 48 hours after his double-medal day at the weekend.
