Andy Murray’s gold medal victory has been commemorated on a first-class stamp in Great Britain, on sale at post offices across the U.K. the day following his triumph at the London 2012 Olympics Tennis Event. Royal Mail has also painted a traditional red post box gold in the Scot’s hometown of Dunblane.
Murray’s mother, Judy, shared the news with a photo of Postman John Elliot on Dunblane High Street, tweeting on Monday morning: “Dunblane’s got a golden postbox. And a brand new stamp. First Class. pic.twitter.com/Wrlb4qTq”
Royal Mail has been hard at work over the past week, issuing next-day stamps to celebrate each of their athlete’s gold medal wins. Beginning with Heather Stanning and Helen Glover’s first-place finish in Women’s Pairs Rowing on Wednesday through Jason Kenny’s in Men’s Track Cycling Sprint on Monday, the host nation has captured 18 gold medals.
Murray defeated top seed Roger Federer of Switzerland 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday to become the first British man since 1908 to win the Olympic singles gold medal in tennis.
