James Blake has endured months of recent injury frustration on court. But the 32-year-old veteran feels he might finally be making a serious recovery after 2011 knee surgery after reaching the second round in Washington at the Citi Open.

The No. 116 who stood in the top 10 several seasons ago, has suffered a massive drop in form which is reflected in his ranking. Four years, ago, the American was winning the Beijing Olympic bronze medal, and along what way beating Roger Federer in the quarter-finals.

Now, Blake can only watch as the Games continue in London without him,

But there is optimism when it comes to his lagging form, which he started to improve with a three-set victory in Washington over Spanish fifth seed Pablo Andujar.

“Most of the years, I’ve not been at 100 percent, to be perfectly honest,” said Blake. “But I feel like my knee has gotten better and my legs are under me now. I;m able to move so much better.

Blake confessed: “I was falsely optimistic earlier in the year, but I’m really able to get out there and compete now. I can;t compete with guys today unless I’m at 100 percent.”
