Kitzbuhel

Singles – Semifinal: (1) P Kohlschreiber def. F Volandri 6-7(6-8) 6-2 6-2

Philipp Kohlschreiber really seems to be intent on making life tough for himself — hardly a good way to prepare for the Olympics! — but he has survived again. It appears he will rise to at least #17.

Singles – Semifinal: (3) R Haase def. (5) M Klizan 6-3 6-3

Robin Haase has a title to defend in another week, so this is a very good time for him to be packing on points. He’s up to probably #36. A title would make him about #33.

Doubles – Semifinal: (1) Cermak/Knowle def. (4) Elgin/Moser 6-4 6-7(4-7) 10-8 (Match TB)

That’s a worrisome semifinal score, but given that Cermak loves clay and Knowle is Austrian, we’d still think they’re the strong favorites in the final.

Doubles – Semifinal: (2) Brown/Hanley def. Norman/Waske 3-6 6-1 10-8 (Match TB)

Los Angeles

Singles – Quarterfinal: (2) S Querrey def. (5) X Malisse 6-2 3-1, retired (Left Knee)

So maybe Xavier Malisse isn’t over his Los Angeles jinx after all. But Sam Querrey would likely have come out on top anyway — he came here as the #2 player in the field, but it very much looks as if he will come out in the Top Fifty and as the highest-ranked guy here.

Singles – Quarterfinal: R Ram def. (3) L Mayer 7-6(7-3) 6-3

This looks as if it will do it: Rajeev Ram should hit the Top Hundred. Why is it that he can only post results like this in July?

Singles – Quarterfinal: (Q) R Berankis def. (4) N Mahut 6-4 6-4

These are the matches Nicolas Mahut really needs to start winning once in a while…. Ricardas Berankis is up to around #115, but Mahut will stay around #65.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (6) M Matosevic def. M Russell 6-2 6-3

Marinko Matosevic is now the top seed (the only seed) left in the top half. Of course, that didn’t do Nicolas Mahut any good…. Michael Russell, sadly, was injured in this; he had to pull out of the doubles.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (3) Delgado/Skupski def. R Ram/Russell walkover (Russell – Back)

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (WC) Johnson/Querrey def. Klaasen/Shamasdin 7-6(7-5) 6-4

It was the end of an era at Crandon Park for the Miami Open last year. From the Lipton, to the Nasdaq 100, to the Sony Ericsson, to the Sony, to the Miami Open presented by Itau, Key Biscayne saw it all.
