Clothing colossus Nike has paid special tribute to Roger Federer after the Swiss star returned to the world No. 1 ranking and set a new all-time record of 287 combined weeks at the top of the ATP table, dislodging Novak Djokovic from the summit and sending fellow Nike endorser Rafael Nadal down to third.
But the multinational is making sure there is something in it for itself as well, marking the Federer No. 1 anniversary with a limited edition pair of Federer shoes which cost a hefty $287.
Just to make things even more diabolical, only 287 pairs of the Zoom Vapor Roger Federer 287s were offered for sale.
The initial run was quickly snapped up, with the inevitable result of some unboxed pairs showing up on eBay. The pricey runners are numbered and are shipped in a custom box. They also include a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the 17-time Grand Slam champion who won his record seventh Wimbledon title this month.
Shoe collectors and Federer freaks are already prowling the auction site in search of the few pairs on offer where prices have been running at an eye-watering $2,000 to $3,000.
