German Angelique Kerber has fulfilled a longtime dream at Wimbledon as she met former champion Steffi Graf. The encounter came after Kerber’s quarter-final defeat of countrywoman Sabine Lisicki and the day before she lost in straight sets to Poland ‘s Agnieszka Radwanska.
Finally speaking with the seven-time Wimbledon winner who attended as a chairman’s gues and sat in the Royal Box was an honour for Kerber, world number eight. “I met her for my first time. We just spoke like 10 minutes about everything,” said the winner of two 2012 titles.
“She just told me that I had good last months and was playing very well, and also to go out there having fun and enjoying this. She said to try my best, and it doesn’t matter what’s happens.”
Despite failing to reach the final, Kerber was pleased after playing her second Grand Slam semi following New York in September. “I think I’ve done a god job here,” she said.
