Former No.1 Caroline Wozniacki is going to great lengths to try and add more power to her game, lowering her string tension from 25.5 kilograms to 21 kg. That’s a pretty radical swing for a pro player, but her new coach, Thomas Johansson, has seen immediate results.
“We tried it out, going down one kg at a time, and I saw a clear advantage for Caroline at 21 kg.,” Johansson told Ekstra Bladet. “The problem was that Caroline sometimes didn’t get enough pace on the ball when she was hitting on the run with the old stringing. She hits the ball too cleanly and has too much racquet speed to not get more pace on the shot.”
Wozniacki said that she’s getting more pace and spin and added that in the past she has made mid season string adjustments with some success.
She also said that the adjustment that she’s made with her service stance has helped her locate better angles.
