Eastbourne
There isn’t much to report. It was a rainy day, and while they finished the women’s schedule, there just wasn’t time to play all the men’s matches — although they should have had time for the singles at least. But, rather than have some quarterfinals on Thursday and some on Friday, they put all the singles matches off until Friday.
Doubles – Semifinal: (WC) J Delgado/Skupski def. Elgin/Istomin 6-3 6-4
This was apparently the match the organizers thought more important than the men’s singles — presumably because it involved a British team.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (1) D Ferrer def. (WC) I Sijsling 6-0 6-1
Still no points for David Ferrer, who cannot add to his point total this week — but he’s getting lots of good grass practice without wasting much energy….
Singles – Quarterfinal: B Paire def. T Ito 6-3 7-5
Benoit Paire is suddenly having a breakthrough year. He came here at #60, and with this, he is now on the brink of the Top Fifty.
Singles – Quarterfinal: (Q) P Petzschner def. E Roger-Vasselin 6-4 7-6(8-6)
This will get Philipp Petzschner back up to about #120. Obviously he still has a lot of rebuilding to do, but at least he’s headed in the right direction.
Singles – Quarterfinal: X Malisse def. G Muller 6-3 4-6 6-1
It looks as if Xavier Malisse will move above #80 as a result of this. The big question remains: How will he do after the grass season is over?
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Cabal/Tursunov def. Malisse/Norman 6-4 6-4
Doubles – Semifinal: (1) Lindstedt/Tecau def. (WC) Brunstrom/Marx 7-6(7-5) 7-6(7-2)
