The Queen’s club linesman whose shin was accidentally cut when irate David Nalbandian lashed out with a kick at an advertising board has apparently raised the stakes in the unfortunate incident by filing charges against the 2002 Wimbledon finalist.
London’s Daily Telegraph reported that Andrew McDougall has now gone to ground and has been pulled from Wimbledon qualifying matches this week due to uncertainty over the reaction to his provocative legal move in the light-security area of Roehampton club.
With Scotland Yard now allegedly investigating the “assault” which resulted in an immediately treated one-inch gash, the incident is getting blown out of all normal proportion.
Nalbandian, who apologized repeatedly for his rash reaction to losing his serve in the final against Marin Cilic, was stripped of his prize money and ranking points for last week’s event and was also fined Euro 10,000 ($12,500).
His camp says that he is now concentrating on his Wimbledon start from Monday and will play the event where he reached the final against Lleyton Hewitt a decade ago.
