British teenager Laura Robson admits she enjoys her home comforts during the Wimbledon fortnight, with the 2008 junior champion confessing that heading home after a day at the courts is one of her small pleasures.
One of the new hopes of the local women’s game used to live within a short stroll of the All England club with her family. But a move requires a slightly longer commute.
“It’s more relaxing going home in the evening, I think. I completely switch off,” said the No. 111 who went out in the second round last year after a pair of first-round defeats following her junior triumph.
The youngster says she tries to keep her mental distance from the pressure to do well. “I don’t get swept up necessarily, I just try to focus on doing my own thing and I treat it like any other tournament.
The added advantage is that I can go home in the evening. I moved from the old house, so I can’t walk home, but I’m like five minutes away, so it’s still good. I like cooking so I do a lot of that.
But Robson does draw the line at how to spend her time off – she will not be cooking for her dogs: “They have a very dry dog food, which I will not be tasting.”
