Defending champion Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor advanced to the Roland Garros final on Thursday after defeating 14th-seeded Italians Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace 6-3, 6-4. The Belarusian/Canadian duo converted three of their 11 break point chances and hit seven aces as they claimed victory in 76 minutes.
Mirnyi and Nestor won their first major championship together at last year’s Roland Garros, where they defeated Juan Sebastian Cabal and Eduardo Schwank in the final. The 34-year-old Mirnyi also won back-to-back titles in Paris in 2005-2006 with Jonas Bjorkman, while the 39-year-old Nestor previously triumphed in 2007 with Mark Knowles and in 2010 with Nenad Zimonjic.
The top seeds came into their Roland Garros title defence having won two titles from four finals this season. They lifted the trophies in Brisbane (d. Melzer/Petzschner) and Memphis (d. Dodig/Melo) and finished runners-up in Miami (l. to Paes/Stepanek) and Monte-Carlo (l. to Bryans).
In the final, Mirnyi and Nestor will face either 2003 champions, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, or 10th seeds Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer.
