Federer Begins Second Week in Paris Very Calm
It’s business as usual for Roger Federer as the Swiss begins the second week of the French Open with the 2009 champion feeling fit for another trophy run at Roland Garros.
The 30-year-old came through into the quarter-finals as he dropped a set to baby-faced Belgian David Goffin, who idolized the 16-time major winner and kept the walls of his room plastered with pictures of the Swiss.
“I’m very happy that I went through the first four rounds, because I may have thought that I was playing too different a game compared with my opponents, starting from the second round,” said Federer. “Physically I feel well. I’m not tired. I don’t have any source of pain anywhere, so that’s very positive.”
The 2009 champion is not at all displeased with his current form. “Everything is fine, but if could be better. I’m still adjusting,” he said of a first week filled with wins over lesser known names.
“I suppose that’s going to help me if, in the next round, I play somebody I’ve already played against several times. It will be a much more straightforward sort of match.”
