Venus Williams will keep her options open in doubles over the coming weeks as the American works to qualify for a place at the London Games in July. The player who turns 32 next month is living with the energy-sapping illness which she revealed in 2011 and may have to ration her time on court.
To keep her health strong, she will all but certainly skip doubles with sister Serena at Roland Garros, where she has reached the second round in singles.
“I’d love to play doubles, but I don’t know what the status is on that,” said Williams, ranked 53rd. “Obviously we want to peak for the Olympics. Obviously at some point I need to figure out a way to play some matches in doubles.
“My main goal right now is to get to the Olympics, so I’ll put all my energy towards the singles. Maybe at Wimbledon. Then I would be able to play some doubles and it will be a little easier.”
