Gael Monfils has joined the withdrawals at the French Open, with a knee problem forcing the Frenchman out. He joins Mardy Fish and Daniel Hantuchova, among others who will miss the clay major.

Monfils pulled the plug with just two days to go before the start and after losing to American Brian Baker, who won his first match on the ATP since 2005 at the expense of the 13th-ranked Monfils.

Fish is faced with a mystery health condition which he has not disclosed while Hantuchova is injured.

Monfils reached the Paris semis in 2008 and played quarter in 2009 and 2011. But his season has been limited after his recent return from more than a month out with an abdominal strain.
