Ivan Dodig Prevails In Belgrade Open

Croatian Ivan Dodig prevailed against Romanian Adrian Ungur 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-4 in first-round action Monday at the Serbia Open. The 74th-ranked Dodig capitalised on six of his 14 break points on his debut match in Belgrade, clinching the victory after two hours and 27 minutes.

Dodig will attempt to win consecutive matches for the first time since a quarter-final showing in February at Zagreb when he next faces No. 2 seed Andreas Seppi of Italy. Seppi was a quarter-finalist last week in Bucharest.

In a meeting between two wild cards, Serbian Dusan Lajovic defeated Russian Evgeny Donskoy 7-5, 6-4. The 21-year-old Lajovic, currently No. 191 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings, has a 5-7 match record in tour-level competition, highlighted by his quarter-final run last October in St. Petersburg.

Marko Djokovic was unable to join his countryman in the second round, as he lost to Italian Filippo Volandri 6-3, 6-1 in one hour. Djokovic, who was looking for his first singles win on the ATP World Tour, dropped serve four times.
