OK. You had enough time to dwell on the good news about John Isner’s great performance the last couple of months. But the outlook for the rest of the American men in the top 100 or anywhere on the horizon is not so encouraging. In fact, it’s disastrous.Let’s go down the line. Mardy Fish had a great 4 1/2 months last year from the French right through Tokyo in the first week of October. I have written here on a number of occasions of how much I liked seeing his style continue to be effective in today’s power hungry men’s game. In those 4 1/2 months, Mardy was tremendous. How is your training going [at the Frans Otten Stadion, Amsterdam]?

At the moment I’m preparing for a big tournament, the Grand Slam, at the beginning of June, and this is a great facility, because it has indoor courts for when it rains and the sort of clay that are very similar to Roland Garros [French Open] and as a tennis player you would like to prepare [on the surfaces] that you’re going to play. Of course I have my specific programme for tournaments, but then I also have a time where I can work on my physical fitness, my mobility training and my mental training. [Read More]
