NOTES
– For the third time since the US Men’s Clay Court Championship moved to River Oaks in 2008 the singles final went three sets.
– Juan Monaco won his second title of the season (Vina del Mar as well) and the fifth of his career, all of which have come on clay. He is now 5-8 in his career in finals.
– Monaco is the second Argentine champion to win the title at River Oaks (Juan Ignacio Chela – 2010).
– Monaco is fourth on the ATP World Tour in 2012 for clay court wins with an 11-2 record on the surface, behind Nicolas Almagro (14), David Ferrer and Carlos Berlocq (12 each).
– This was the fifth straight year an American has reached the final at this tournament. At least one US player has been in the final in 11 of the past 12 years
– Isner falls to 3-7 overall in finals.
– Isner is now 7-1 on clay in 2012
– Both players will move up in the rankings with their result in Houston. Isner moves to a career high No. 9 while Monaco will equal his career high at No. 14.
– With his win Saturday, John Isner moved ahead of Mardy Fish in the ATP World Tour rankings to become the highest ranked American player. He is the 12th player to hold that distinction since the rankings began in 1973 (Smith, Connors, McEnroe, Agassi, Chang, Gilbert, Courier, Samprass, Roddick, Blake and Fish).
– James Blake & Sam Querrey defeated Treat Conrad Huey & Dominc Inglot in Saturday’s doubles final.
