The Davis Cup world group quarterfinals began this weekend bringing big excitement for the eight teams and their countries in the world group quarterfinals. The USA faces France on its home turf with the American John Isner recently defeating the Frenchman Gilles Simon. Serbia is being kept in the game by Janko Tipsarevic who took their most recent win agains Radek Stepanek of the Czech republic. Del Potro managed to keep Argentina level with Croatia while Austria strugles against Spain, having already lost two matches. The Davis Cup world group quarterfinals continue throughout the eigth and we’ll keep you posted all way through.
Venus Williams had a good run at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina but was knocked out of the quarterfinals on Friday, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 by Samantha Stosur, the number 2 seed who has been making quite a run at this tournament. The four women remaining in the tournament are Samantha Stosur, Serena Williams, Polona Hercog (who just made her first top ten win), and Lucie Safrova. In a clash between former Family Circle Cupchampions – as well as former World No.1s, Venus Williams won a tight first set then rolled over Jelena Jankovic in a literally electric second round match.
Going into the match Jankovic may have been the favorite, not only leading their head-to-head, 6-5, but having won their last four clay court meetings (including a 60 61 rout in their last meeting on the clay courts of Rome two years ago).
Jankovic had the stronger start, breaking in the opening game and, after losing serve in the next game, breaking again for a 2-1 lead. But the two players then had to deal with a lengthy rain delay, with lightning in the area as well. [Read More]

Mackenzie McDonald would just as soon forget the year 2011 ever existed. The No. 4 seeded 16-year-old from Piedmont, Calif., beat John Richmond of Pawleys Island, S.C., 6-2, 6-2, in the boys’ 18s on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the eighth annual USTA International Spring Championships being played at the Home Depot Center. Novak Djokovic showed once again why he is the best player in the game, especially at crunch time. He served adequately and only allowed Murray one break point in the entire match. That break point came in the 5th game after Novak had broken Andy in the marathon 16-point 4th game. Nole broke again in the next game after saving that break point. He served out the set with an ace as he made all 5 first serves in that game. He finished off the first set with forehand volley winner, service winner, backhand winner and that ace. [Read More]
