Singles – Semifinal: (1) N Djokovic def. (21) J Monaco 6-0 7-6(7-5)
Novak Djokovic definitely tired himself out more in this match than he had to. He was up a set and a break. He survived a break scare in the eighth came, but was broken in the tenth as he served for the match. He finally got things worked out in the tiebreak. And so Juan Monaco will not rise above #16. Djokovic of course remains #1 — and, in light of the next result, he actually strengthens his position for the first time in a while.
Singles – Semifinal: (4) A Murray def. (2) R Nadal walkover (knee)
In the quarterfinal, Andy Murray looked unhealthy enough that many wondered if he would be able to play this match. But it was Rafael Nadal’s troublesome left knee that broke down. The Spaniard hopes it won’t be serious, but he definitely loses the chance to gain ground on Novak Djokovic. He didn’t help his position relative to Roger Federer much, either. Andy Murray — who now, amazingly, has had two walkovers here — does gain some ground with respect to the top three, but he’s still pretty far behind.
