Recognizing and Admiring Roger Federer

Roger Federer has recently been considered the greatest tennis player of all time, and I could not agree more. From the moment he steps on the court to the moment he steps off the court, he keeps the same collected composure about himself. This shows when you look at his consistency in his tournament play. He has reached at least the quarterfinals of 30 consecutive major championships. That means he was one of the last eight men standing in Grand Slams for almost eight consecutive years.

Other tennis players like Nadal or Djokavic, have fallen to injury, which hinders their ability to achieve this feat. However, Federer has set himself up for a long and healthy career, holding the number one position in the world for 237 consecutive weeks (4 ½ years) and 285 weeks overall (5 ½ years). During this time Federer has won 16 Grand Slams, only needing 27 tries to achieve this record. Federer is also the only player to win two different Grand Slams for five consecutive years. Winning two different Grand Slams with this consistency shows how versatile Federer is, and once again, how consistent Federer is with his style of play.

To further the argument for Federer being the greatest ever to play the game, he won an incredible 24 consecutive finals. In a span from the end of the 2003 season until 2005 Federer was simply unbeatable in the finals of a tournament. In fact from 2004-2006 Federer went on a tear recording a 247-15 record in tournaments. He won a stunning 34 titles, including eight Grand Slams, nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000s and two Tennis Masters Cup titles during this time period. If these records alone are not enough to prove Federers dominance in the sport, then I recommend you watch some of his matches.

Even with younger, more powerful players emerging such as Novak Djokavic and Rafael Nadal, he is still able to compete at an extremely high level and win tournaments. Federer has helped to change the sport of tennis while keeping his amazing grace and class. Federer is a true champion of the sport and can easily be looked up to by the tennis world.
