I have been in Miami for a week and it is been crazy busy.
The transition from one tournament to the next is always a challenge.
First of all you loose full day with traveling from the west coast to the east coast and you have to battle the 3 hour time difference that comes with it. I left at noon from Palm springs and arrived past midnight in Miami.
Not only the weather is different but the whole environment has a different feeling to it and it takes some time to adjust. A total other organization location, less courts, different traveling time from and to the courts, parking your car and court reservations and using off side locations to practice more hours.
When you do get to Miami the transport is with your own rental car which you can Park with the VIP Sony Ericsson Open Parking Service and it is a great privilege to have access to this parking since it is normally only for players and VIP’s.
In Indian Wells my parents were with me and at this event my good friends Rodrigo Nascinmento and Yury Bettoni both great coaches that I have known for almost 20 years are enjoying the tennis together. It is great to have good friends with you when you are a way from home, family and loved ones.
One night we went to all you can eat Lobster on North
Miami beach at “Kitchen 305″ I only ate 5 but Yury was able to eat 11 and Mats Merkel 10.
This Year the SE open has made an upgrade for coaches and has given them their own locker rooms and it is great since now we have our own space – we can relax and shower. Also some of the coaches have their family with them and one day we had a kid hiding in the lockers.
Practice sessions are always a challenge because you only have one hour or 45 min to prepare for your tournament and you get 2 a day before a match most of the players take only 30 min for their match warmup. This is on some outside courts but also at times we get a chance to be on center court.
Yesterday we had a great training session with Caroline Wozniacki and we had a special visit by her boyfriend Rory Mcllroy the number 1 Golf player in the world. He is laid back and a very humble nice guy.
This week I am working with Sorana Cirstea, Ayumi Morita, Laura Robson, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Caroline Wozniacki. As I am writing this Blog entry. Only Caroline is left in the Singles and Anastasia in
This past week we also had another Adidas distribution week where the players were given their practice gear and their clay court shoes for the upcoming months that completes the whole tour transfers from the hard court to the clay court season. It is always great to get some new gear but it also means you have to very flexible to avoid any extra charges when you travel back to Europe.
