John Isner and Sam Querrey Advance to Doubles Final
Indian Wells, CA – The tall American duo of John Isner and Sam Querrey advanced to their 5th doubles final together this afternoon after beating Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor 6-4 6-2. Max is a great friend and supporter of 10sballs.com and him and Nestor had a great run this year reaching the semifinals. It was a case of poor serving by Mirnyi/Nestor as they only managed a 48% first serves in. They were playing against two of the biggest servers in game, who were serving at 70% respectively. Mirnyi and Nestor struggled on second serves too, again winning only 48% of them.
Isner and Querrey aren’t your typical doubles team. They don’t have spectacular hands at net and their returns are suspect at times and come under criticism in their singles matches. But in doubles, these two have already captured a Masters 1000 title in Madrid as well as Memphis. Being unorthodox plays to their advantage and with their serves being able to set up easy put aways, it seems that the Bryans might have some competition in the future years to come or more immediately at the Olympics.
