Hello tennis fans and welcome to Tuesday, 13th of March 2012! Today’s schedule boasts a heavy hitting line-up that we’re sure you’ll enjoy! But first, let’s review some of the big news from last week…

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez shocked everyone by defeating Andy Murray 6-4 6-2 in the 2nd round. Nobody saw it coming and nobody can understand why Murray hasn’t done better at Indian Wells. Murray was coming into the event having reached the finals of Dubai and riding a great wave of momentum after defeating Djokovic in the semifinals there.

Christina McHale created another upset at this year’s event, ousting Petra Kvitova in 3 sets. After having a few days off, McHale now faces Angelique Kerber of Germany and they are scheduled third on Stadium 3 today. Speaking of upsets in the WTA, Stosur went out to Petrova, Lisicki was trounced by Dominguez Lino, Zvonareva withdrew from the tournament, Vania King beat Pavlyuchenkova then withdrew herself due to illness, and Jamie Hampton beat 2010 champ Jelena Jankovic.

Rafael Nadal made his return to the ATP World Tour as he defeated Argentine Leonardo Mayer in his opening round. Nadal looked very sharp but now he plays countryman Marcel Granollers which should be a very high quality match. The desert conditions may help Granollers play his aggressive style more often and be able to give Nadal a harder time.

Roger Federer started the tournament a little under the weather but he did not disappoint fans as he took care of Denis Kudla in straight sets to start his Indian Wells campaign. Hopefully Federer has recovered because he now faces the formidable Milos Raonic to begin the evening session today.

Novak Djokovic has eased past his two opponents so far, call it bad match ups or that the Serb is just happy and relaxed to be playing good tennis again at Indian Wells. Djokovic has practiced the most on site and fans are loving his fun-loving personality on court.

Victoria Azarenka was nearly upset by Mona Barthel but the WTA #1 stuck to her guns and managed to come through. She used the confidence gained from that match to completely dismantle Svetlana Kuznetsova in the next round 6-1 6-2. She is scheduled to play Julia Goerges of Germany second on Stadium 1 today; Goerges is a fan favorite around the grounds and should be able to hang with Azarenka, since the WTA is on upset alert these days, don’t be surprised if they go three sets.

Ana Ivanovic and Caroline Wozniacki battle each other for a spot in the quarterfinals. It will be a tall order for Ivanovic to get past Wozniacki’s defense. However, Wozniacki finished a late three-setter just last night and has had a little less than 24 hours to recover. Look for this match as the 2nd on Stadium 1 during the evening session.

John Isner and Ryan Harrison are the only American men left in the singles draw, Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish both lost yesterday. The ATP action heats up today as the bigger name players start to play each other: Verdasco vs Del Potro, Tsonga vs Stepanek, Davydenko vs Bellucci, Nalbandian vs Tipsarevic, Baghdatis vs Dolgopolov, Nadal vs Granollers, and Federer vs Raonic.
