Tennis 10s stopped traffic in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Sunday, with the launch of a Tennis 10s Tour. More than 50 red courts were constructed on Avenida 9 de Julio, closing seven lanes of the enormous road for around four hours while 300 Tennis 10s players took part in a fun team competition.
The Asociacion Argentina de Tenis (AAT) adopted the Tennis 10s Tour in order to increase the amount of appropriate competition taking place within and between clubs. A series of red, orange and green events are planned in towns and cities across Argentina in order to develop young players and keep them interested in the sport by getting the chance to play fun team matches.
The event was supported by current Argentine Davis Cup captain Martin Jaite, former Davis Cup Captain Tito Vazquez and player Martín Vassallo Arguello as well as coaches, parents and spectators who enjoyed a festival of junior tennis, with support from title sponsor Fiat and a number of other partners, including Wilson and McDonalds.
“It’s been an actual tennis party. We are launching a new way of tennis: easier to learn and funnier to share with friends. This is our first step to present the Argentina Tennis 10s Tour, for kids under 10. Let’s play and stay,” said AAT President Arturo Grimaldi.
“We need to play tennis. This is the starting point: more kids playing tennis. Playing tennis and staying in it, it’s great for our sport,” said Vazquez. For more information on Tennis 10s visit www.tennis10s.com.
