Keep Your Eyes on The Ball – 10sChiro, Sven Groeneveld, BNP Paribas Tennis Update

It’s been awhile….. Hanging out with Global Chick has had me spinning. First it was the Golden Globes …. Followed by the Academy Awards… Then party after party…. VIP swag suites… Hanging with Clooney…. It’s been fun… But time to get back to 10s.

Sounds like everyone headed to the California desert to check out the action at the BNP Paribas Open. Me? I’m holding down the fort. Oh well. That’s what Big Boss said I deserve for goofing off……

The reports are it’s been beautiful in the Coachella valley. Very windy at times and a bit cold. The Forecast calls for warmer days ahead….

If you’ve read 10sChiro you have a good idea of how Don sees the men and women draws.

Women: https://archive.10sballs.com/?p=42598

Don is a great addition to the site. He really gives great in depth analysis. He has been the tourney director for one of the more unusual tennis events the pros have ever known. “The Huggy Bears”. It was held in the New York area for 25 years just prior to the US Open . Don scouted and recruited all the players. Made the teams. Those guys had a truly unique event. With tons of money going to charities. [READ MORE].

Novak Djokovic Holds First Press Conference

Novak Djokovic was in the interview room for the first time at this year’s 2012 BNP Paribas Open. A well-spoken Djokovic touched upon his mindset and focus for the tournament as well as mentioning the positives (winning his dream tournament Wimbledon) and negatives (a loss to Roger Federer in the SF of the French Open) of his incredible 2011 season.

Surprisingly, nobody asked him about his Olympic goals or ideas, and mainly focused on how the current world #1 will answer the call to “defend” his titles/points week in and week out. Djokovic had this to say in response to this:

“I talked about it actually in Australia, saying that I believe that the right mindset is to always try to be a part of that group of the players that is going to win the title, you know, going to hunt that title, and that every year is different. So I’m not really trying to position myself as a defending champion, because then defending, you know, is not really something that I want to have. So I always try to get that aggressive approach.” [READ MORE].

Americans Robby Ginepri and Sam Querrey Advance

Robby Ginepri overcame a one-set deficit and staged an emotional comeback for fans as he defeated Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the first round of the 2012 BNP Paribas Open. Temperatures were hot and the American went down in flames in the first set, 6-1. But Ginepri battled back, capturing the 2nd set 6-3. It became a battle of attrition. Ginepri used veteran will power to outlast Lorenzi during long and physically grueling points to capture a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. [READ MORE].

Welcome to Indian Wells!

Federer is confident. Great to hear for tennis fans… not so good for the players he’ll face over the next 10 or so days. King Rog has won at Indian Wells three times, but not once since his 2006 victory over James Blake. The hard courts at the beautiful purpose built Tennis Garden suit Federer’s stylish and increasingly aggressive serve-volley game, and the main stadium court’s 16,100 capacity will encourage him to entertain. If there were a fifth Slam tournament, it would surely be here, and California is tennis mad. [READ MORE].
