Singles – Second Round: (1) N Djokovic def. S Stakhovsky 7-6(7-5) 6-3
Novak Djokovic will be #1 whatever happens here, but he’s doing a good job of adding insurance points.
Singles – Second Round: (2) R Federer def. F Lopez 7-5 6-3
This should have been the toughest of the second round matches, but Roger Federer handled it easily, which is promising. The loss means that Feliciano Lopez will not rise above #15 — although there isn’t much chance that he will fall.
Singles – Second Round: (3) A Murray def. M Chiudinelli (Q) 6-3 6-4
After a tough first round, it appears Andy Murray has managed to adjust his game.
Singles – Second Round: (4) J Tsonga def. L Rosol 6-3 6-4
The points are starting to count for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, letting him add to his cushion over David Ferrer in the contest for #5. Things are far from settled, though.
Singles – Second Round: (5) T Berdych def L Lacko (Q) 6-1 6-2
This wasn’t very competitive, but Lukas Lacko is nonetheless building up his ranking. If he can keep playing as he has this year, he won’t be in qualifying here in 2013.
Singles – Second Round: M Youzhny def. (6) M Fish 6-2 7-6(7-3)
Fish was the first seed to fall here — perhaps he’s still not feeling entirely well. That leaves his #8 ranking still in some slight danger. If Mikhail Youzhny can win his next match, the Russian will be just below the Top Thirty.
Singles – Second Round: (7) J Tipsarevic def. F Cipolla 6-7(2-7) 6-1 6-1
Janko Tipsarevic is the main threat to pass Fish. Problem is, he needs a couple more wins to accomplish that — and the first of those has to come against Djokovic!
Singles – Second Round: (8) J del Potro def. A Golubev (Q) 6-4 6-2
Juan Martin del Potro also has a chance to pass Fish — we already show him ahead of Tipsarevic. But he too needs a final to have a shot. At least he isn’t in Djokovic’s half.
Doubles – Second Round: (1) Llodra/Zimonjic def. (WC) Ilhan/Jaziri 6-1 6-3
So the organizers gave Jaziri a doubles wildcard instead of the singles wildcard they perhaps should have offered him. Small consolation, given the draw he got!
Doubles – Second Round: (2) Lindstedt/Tecau def. Paes/Tipsarevic 6-4 7-5
Doubles – Second Round: (4) Bhupathi/Bopanna def. Dlouhy/Dolgopolov 6-4 7-5
At least it’s a win for Bhupathi/Bopanna, although given the way Lukas Dlouhy has been playing lately, it probably doesn’t mean much….
Doubles – Second Round: Hanley/J Murray def. Qureshi/Rojer 4-6 7-6(14-12) 10-6 (Match TB)
There were 151 points in this match — and Qureshi/Rojer won 76 of them, or more than half, and still lost. A rare thing in doubles….
