Caroline Wozniacki is calmly looking ahead to the March North American hardcourt run after exiting in her title defense at the Dubai Championships in a 7-6, 7-5 loss to German Julia Goerges. The Dane who now stands fourth in the world after losing her No. 1 status in January, insists she’s not concerned by the current state of her game.
“I’m going to go home to Monaco for a few days, practice there, and then going to go to New York. I have the exhibition there on the Monday (March 5),” she said after finishing a two-week tournament series in the Gulf. “I’m going to New York (where she owns two luxury flats) a few days early.
Then I’m going to go to Indian Wells.
The Californian desert venue looms as another test of character for the 21-year-old, who won that Masters trophy a year ago. And besides not winning a title or reaching a final since last August, the Dane says she’s confident in her form and certainly not counting the ranking points.
“You go there and you feel great because you’ve won the tournament before. Then there’s Miami afterwards, where I lost in the fourth round. Everyone has things to defend or not to defend, you know. It’s just about playing.
“You’ll have more points at some tournaments, a little bit less at some; it evens out in the end.”
