Singles – First Round: (5) F Mayer def. F Bagnis 6-2 6-4
Florian Mayer is to the stage where the points start counting. That makes it very likely, although not quite sure, that he will stay Top Twenty.

Singles – First Round: (7) M Granollers def. T Bellucci 6-4 6-2
Thomaz Bellucci is really struggling this year. He is in real danger of falling out of the Top Fifty after this loss.

Singles – First Round: P Andujar def. L Mayer 7-6(7-5) 6-3
Pablo Andujar came in right at #50; this doesn’t clinch his Top Fifty spot, but it improves the odds significantly.

Singles – First Round: P Starace def. A Giannessi (Q) 6-2 7-5
Alessandro Gianessi is ranked #138, which means that he has had some fairly solid Challenger results (since he has almost no ATP experience — his best result was a Bucharest quarterfinal last year). But it seems he isn’t yet ready to tackle a true clay expert on clay….

Singles – First Round: J Chela def. (WC) C Ramirez 6-0 6-2
A very easy draw for Juan Ignacio Chela, but it moves him very close to (although still below) the Top Thirty.

Singles – First Round: B Paire def. (Q) J Cabal 7-6(7-3) 7-6(8-6)
Benoit Paire came in at #99, so this significantly helps his Top Hundred chances.

Doubles – First Round: (1) Cermak/Polasek def. (WC) Garza/Giraldo 6-3 7-6(7-4)
