Add Some Linsanity in Tennis—Nathan’s Notice  |

Roger Federer isn’t only a great tennis player and fan of tennis but also a fan of basketball. The current world No.3 and 16 time Grand Slam champion is a big fan of the New York Knicks, and their rising star Jeremy Lin. The term coined for Jeremy Lin’s growing fan-base has been termed Linsanity, and Federer’s taking part in it.

On Linsanity and the New York Knicks, Federer commented, “I have [heard of him]. Actually I’ve heard a bit about [Linsanity].” Federer said, “It’s quite an incredible story. I hope he can come to the exhibition. This is why, I think, we all follow sports, because of great stories like this when all of a sudden somebody breaks through that you didn’t know or didn’t expect to come along, to be able to help the Knicks come through. I love the New York Knicks. Having played in this arena, I wish the team well and I hope to meet him when I come to New York soon.”

Federer plays in New York at Madison Square garden on March 5th for the BNP Paribas Showdown. In the exhibition match Federer faces No.27 Andy Roddick, who was No.1 back in 2003. In 2008 Federer played a different famous American tennis player at Madison Square Garden. Who was that man—none other than the legendary Pete Sampras, who has the most yearend No.1’s and weeks at No.1 of all time. The 2008 match was exhilarating for Federer as the stadium filled to the brim with both the players’ and fan’s energy.

Federer is very excited about the quickly approaching match, which should be a nice stop before heading to the first Masters tournament of the season in Indian Wells. Federer said, “Playing Pete at the Garden was a great moment for me. It’s something Pete really wanted to get done. We couldn’t believe the stadium sold out so quickly and there was such a buzz in the city. I’m really looking forward to it, playing in America. Roddick has been a great friend of mine, a great rival. I’m sure it’ll be another great night for tennis.”

Roger Federer and Andy Roddick’s match isn’t the only highlight of the BNP Paribas showdown. Three time Grand Slam champion and World No. 2 Maria Sharapova takes on the former World No.1 Caroline Wozniakcki. Monday, March 5th will be full of excitement as these four great tennis players show off their skills and charge the atmosphere at Madison Square Garden. If you want more information about the BNP Paribas Showdown then I advise you click here. Who knows, maybe Jeremy Lin will show up—wouldn’t that tickle Federer’s fancy and add some Linsanity to the match.
