Singles – Second Round: Timea Babos def. (3/WC) Sorana Cirstea 4-6 6-4 6-2
This is turning into quite a run for Timea Babos — a semifinal last week, now this. She is now firmly in the Top Hundred. She leaves Sorana Cirstea below #45.
Singles – Second Round: (6) Greta Arn def. Maria Abramovic (Q) 6-4 6-2
Greta Arn is the top seed remaining in the top half, and she likes playing at events such as this, so this could spell a big opportunity.
Singles – Second Round: Patricia Mayr-Achleitner def. Eva Birnerova 6-1 6-3
Patrician Mayr-Achleitner just fell out of the Top Hundred, but this should easily put her back in.
Singles – Second Round: Mandy Minella def. (WC) Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3 6-7(1-7) 6-4
Mandy Minella is having the best year of her career. She hit the Top Hundred for the first time a few weeks ago. This will put her around #90.
Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Errani/Vinci def. Husarova/Marosi 6-1 6-1
Doubles – Quarterfinal: (3) Bratchikova/Jurak def. Fichman/Sun 6-2 6-3
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Dulko/Suarez def. Abramovic/Buzarnescu 6-3 6-3
It isn’t really strong opposition, but Dulko/Suarez seem to be making rapid progress as a team. Of course, having two #1 players work together may be a little intimidating, even if both have had their struggles, or at least retirements, since then.
