Singles – Second Round: (3) Caroline Wozniacki def. Simona Halep (Q) 6-2 6-3
After all the withdrawals here, Caroline Wozniacki is suddenly the top seed in the draw. She can’t improve on her #4 ranking this week, but at least she is making it less likely that she will go lower.

Singles – Second Round: (4) Samantha Stosur def. Lucie Safarova 6-1 6-7(5-7) 6-1
This time, Lucie Safarova doesn’t cause too much damage. She will keep the #25 ranking she came in with.

Singles – Second Round: (5) Agnieszka Radwanska def. (WC) Shahar Peer 7-5 6-4
After a tough first round, it looks as if Agnieszka Radwanska is settling down. She has reached the stage where the points count, so any additional wins will potentially take her closer to Samantha Stosur and the Top Five.

Singles – Second Round: (8) Jelena Jankovic def. Flavia Pennetta 6-4 6-2
Jelena Jankovic still needs one more win to defend her points, but her #14 ranking looks pretty safe. Flavia Pennetta will fall a spot or two, but should stay Top Thirty.

Singles – Second Round: (9) Sabine Lisicki def. (Q) Iveta Benesova 6-3 6-3
Sabine Lisicki, who is in the place of the #2 seed, isn’t likely to climb above #13 this week, but this is a draw in which she has an obvious chance to do damage. She leaves Iveta Benesova below #40.

Singles – Second Round: Ana Ivanovic def. Maria Kirilenko 6-2 7-6(7-4)
We had incorrectly understood that Maria Kirilenko was bailing out of singles as well as doubles, but it hardly mattered in terms of the result…. She will fall at least one spot; Ana Ivanovic will probably climb to #16.

Singles – Second Round: Julia Goerges def. Casey Dellacqua (LL) 6-0 6-2
As we reported briefly earlier, Victoria Azarenka is out of the draw due to the ankle injury she suffered earlier. Since she didn’t withdraw until play was well underway, there was no possibility of promoting seeds. So Casey Dellacqua got her place. Which mostly served to make life easy for Julia Goerges — who, however, still hasn’t quite clinched her Top Twenty ranking, although it seems very likely.

Singles – Second Round: Daniela Hantuchova def. Peng Shuai 7-5 6-2
One more win and Daniela Hantuchova is back in the Top Twenty. But Peng Shuai is going to fall at least two rankings spots. If Hantuchova wins her quarterfinal, it will be three.

Doubles – First Round: Kops-Jones/Spears def. Pennetta/Schiavone (WC) 3-6 7-6(7-2) 10-6 (Match TB)
With a final last week, and now this, the Middle East seems to be turning into a favorite place for Kops-Jones/Spears.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Huber/Raymond def. Medina Garrigues/Rosolska 6-3 6-3
After a slow start to the year, nothing seems capable of stopping Huber/Raymond any more
