Singles – First Round: (1) Roberta Vinci def. Coco Vandeweghe 7-5 7-5

Roberta Vinci probably should have won this about three games earlier; she had chances to serve it out and let them slip. But she finally managed to hold in the second set. No points yet, though.

Singles – First Round: (2) Sara Errani def. Stephanie Dubois 6-2 6-2

Given how fast these two are, that’s a lot of scrambling for no points for Sara Errani; she needs at least a semifinal to add to her total.

Singles – First Round: Nina Bratchikova def. Anastasia Pivovarova 6-3 6-1

This probably won’t put Nina Bratchikova in the Top Hundred, but she will be very close.

Singles – First Round: Alexandra Cadantu def. Jelena Dokic 3-6 6-1 7-5

Jelena Dokic’s ranking won’t be much affected this week, but she has a title to defend next week. Her days in the Top Hundred may well be limited.

Doubles – First Round: (2) Date-Krumm/Zhang def. Luzhanska/Wienerova 3-6 6-3 10-5 (Match TB)

Doubles – First Round: Fichman/Sun def. (WC) de la Pena/Lopez 6-2 6-2
