The continuing back-injury crisis of Li Na has forced the defending French Open champion to cancel her participation in the Dubai WTA event, the Chinese news agency Sina says.

The 29-year-old is due to take treatment at her training base in Munich.

The world No. 9 has enjoyed just an average competitive year so far, losing to Kim Clijsters as the Belgian made a huge comeback in their Australian Open quarter-final clash, winning three Fed Cup rubbers but forced to retire hurt in the second set of her opening match at the Paris Indoors.

The Dubai tournament, which is headed by new world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki, who was beaten in the first round in Doha and will be hoping to make amends at the event she won a year ago when she stood world No. 1.
