The wedding date hasn’t been set yet in the long-running engagement of Maria Sharapova and Slovenian NBA basketballer Sasha Vujacic. But when it is, it will definitely be the bride-to-be to announce the news.
That’s the promise from Vujacic to Russian media, with the potential groom determined to let his fiancée give all the details when the time is right. “I did my part. I asked her to marry me, she said ‘yes,’ so we are engaged,” the 27-year-old told RIA Novosti.
Due to the impact of the NBA strike, Vujacic is spending this hoops season in Istanbul. “When will the date and the place come out? I’ll be a gentleman; I’ll let her tell you that next week when she comes. If not, we’ll see.”
The high-profile sporting couple announced their engagement in October, 2010, when Vujacic played in Los Angeles, where he played on a pair of championship teams.
The guard and his girlfriend who played the Australian Open final spend much of their time communicating via computer, with Sharapova saying that she likes to speak with him twice per day. That’s fine by Vujacic. “We’ll get plenty of time to spend with one another when we’re a little bit older.”
