Singles – First Round: (1) Marina Erakovic def. Stefanie Voegele 6-3 6-4
Clay isn’t really Marina Erakovic’s surface, as she showed last week when she struggled at the Cali challenger. So this is a modestly promising result. It will probably take her above #55.

Singles – First Round: (Q) Paula Ormaechea def. (4) Jelena Dokic 4-6 6-3 6-4
We lost four of eight seeds in the first round alone — an impressive illustration of the weakness of this draw. That means Jelena Dokic will remain well below #70.

Singles – Second Round: Timea Babos def. (3) Romina Oprandi 6-4 6-0
This is the best result of Timea Babos’s career. And she is in the much-depleted bottom half, so she might yet have another win or two up her sleeve. Although that second set score is the result of injury; Romina Oprandi would later withdraw from the doubles.

Singles – Second Round: Mariana Duque-Marino def. (7) Lourdes Dominguez Lino 4-6 6-2 7-5
This was a battle of former champions, but Mariana Duque-Marino is a lot more former — she has done almost nothing since winning here. Lourdes Dominguez Lino hasn’t done much better — and she was the defending champion. She will fall from #72 to probably around #110.
There are only two seeds left in the draw, and we have yet to see a seed reach the second round!

Singles – Second Round: Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino def. Eva Birnerova 6-4 6-0
The WTA scores page appeared to spell Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino’s name wrong for a while, probably because it’s just too long to fit on a marquee! But they may have to learn; her results still look fairly promising to us.

Singles – Second Round: Yaroslava Shvedova (Q) def. Valeria Savinykh 6-2 6-2
Yaroslava Shvedova could really use a confidence boost about now, so this is just what the doctor ordered. She ought to rise to around #170.

Doubles – First Round: (1) Birnerova/Panova def. (WC) Castiblanco/Ormaechea 6-2 6-0

Doubles – First Round: Babos/Savinykh def. (4) Abramovic/Pelletier 1-6 6-3 10-3 (Match TB)

Doubles – First Round: Arruabarrena-Vecino/Cabeza Candela def. Cadantu/Olaru 6-1 6-4

Doubles – First Round: Minella/Voegele def. Costas-Moreira/Ferrer Suarez 6-2 0-6 10-5 (Match TB)
At least we won’t have to worry any more about confusing Suarez and Ferrer Suarez….

Doubles – First Round: Auroux/Irigoyen def. Dulko/Suarez (WC) 6-4 6-4
It’s hard to know what to make of this. Dulko/Suarez lost, and lost to a very weak team — but it was close, and it was, after all, Paola Suarez’s first match in years….

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Gallovits-Hall/Knapp def. Dominguez Lino/Oprandi walkover (Oprandi: Right Knee Injury)
