Roger Federer has knocked back erroneous claims that he slammed doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka with his post-match analysis of their losing Davis Cup match after his words were turned completely on their head through a mis-translation from French,

The Beijing Olympic gold medal pair were beaten on the way to Switzerland’s 5-0 home loss to the US. But when Federer gave his usual informed analysis of the contest, the meaning went wrong passing from one language to the other.

The No. 3 said of the loss: “I played a good doubles, and Stan not a bad one.” But once the remark passed into English the “not a bad one” erroneously became “a bad one.”

Federer said that the situation was quickly cleared up among the teams. “The Stan comment was taken completely the wrong way. I’d never say that, and I’ll move on quickly (after the defeat). I spoke with both (captain) Severin (Luthi) and Stan to make sure there is no misunderstanding.”

After the initial uproar, normalcy returned as Federer arrived Monday with his family for the ABN Amro World Tennis, the event run by former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek which the Swiss last played – and won – in 2005.

The event marks the midway point of a busy February for Federer, who will compete at his “home” event in Dubai from February 27. “I’m feeling healthy and have had no problems with my back (pain) from Doha. I’m perfectly fine after Davis Cup,” said the only member of the ATP elite to put in a full schedule this month.

“Now that we don’t have Davis Cup that makes scheduling in 2012 a lot easier. I need to wrap my mind about my schedule and what I want to do in the next weeks. It’s all under control, I’m back in form and completely fit this week.
